A number of Humanities courses are also offered in the Summer and Winter Terms. These are referred to as ‘Third-Term’ courses, credit-bearing courses offered to students to support them in meeting the curriculum requirements of their degrees.  They are referred to as ‘Third Term’ as they are offered outside the regular first and second semester structure, usually over the winter or summer vacation periods, and carry a course suffix of L, P or U.

Please note: Third-Term courses should not be confused with UCT short courses, which are not credit-bearing courses.

Summer Term course:  November and December = P code
Winter Term course: June and July = L code

Descriptions of each of the Third-Term courses on offer can be found under the departmental entries in the Humanities Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies Handbooks; or you can download the undergraduate Third Term booklet. The list of available courses is updated annually.
